The taller the tree, the deeper the roots
This tree, bears no fruits…
Yet it towers over the world, blocking the sun’s rays
Rays that need to penetrate hearts to help bring about change
Real change.
That is long overdue.
Because you see,
Humans were born equally
No matter what they say.
But since the beginning of time
There are those whose sole aim
Is to lead people astray
They plotted and strived
Oh what deep rooted foundations they laid
So deep
That it exists in all our systems to this day…
Diversity exists so that we can get to know one another
But that’s not what they say
Instead, to lead the people astray they say:
“Diversity exists so that one group can feel superior over another”
The deception is so entrenched into their psyche
That they believe this blindly
Spoon fed words that inflate their self esteem
At the expense of degrading others
Now they’re the ones losing steam…
And when this perceived ‘superiority’ is married with money, fear or power
Then life for the labelled ‘minority’ becomes so sour.
The branches thicken
Darkness closes in
Equality evaporates from the heat that’s within
Burning away the chance of a flourishing future like birds with clipped wings
That’s if the bird even survives the sting.
The mistreatment
The hate
The violence
The rape
The dirty looks
The forbidden books
All to supress and intimidate.
All to keep the divide between humans alive
All to keep the gates of opportunity hard to walk through
And lives to wither away, not knowing what to do.
What can you do?
What can I do?
We need to find a way so we can break through this
Darkness
That’s plaguing our hearts
And making us
Heartless
Let’s start
With ourselves
And examine whether WE
Are part of this mess
Examine whether we too do as the whispers say
And to call it out
So that we are not led astray
Because
To be led astray is to be taken away from one’s true purpose
A tainted moral compass
An inflated arrogance that blinds the heart from seeing the way
And although the roots are deep beneath the surface…
When conversations are had
Then the winds blow and the branches sway
And from darkness to light
Some hearts do see the way.
And some don’t
And some won’t…
Too comfortable in their ways
Not willing to make a change
But you know one day, they’ll have to pay
If not in this life
Then on the final day
And if they don’t believe in the final day
Then all I can say is:
What.if.it’s.true?
By then it’ll be too late
No open gates
They’ll lose
And they’ll have to pay their dues
I wouldn’t want anyone to be in those shoes…
So let’s keep the winds blowing so that the leaves may fall and the branches
may break
And more light can reach through
For all our sakes.
